Overwinning uit het vuur gesleept

Zondag 12-03 de officiële kickoff van seizoen 2017 voor de Enschede Broncos.
Op het programma stond de thuiswedstrijd tegen de Alphen Eagles.
Alphen, in een zeer recent verleden drie keer op rij landskampioen, zag zich wegens een gebrek aan spelers genoodzaakt dit jaar een divisie lager uit te komen.
De Broncos begonnen voortvarend aan de wedstrijd en wisten door een pass van QB Tom Wolterink op Wilbert Poppink en twee goede runs van RB Hensley Sanchez voor rust een 22-0 score op het bord te brengen.

Ondanks dat men zich natuurlijk bewust was van het gevaar op verslapping leek er niks aan de hand. Alphen wist echter met een paar slimme omzettingen na rust flink zand in de Enschedese motor te strooien. De offense kwam niet meer tot scoren en had moeite met de omzettingen van Alphen. De defense werd tot het uiterste getest en ondanks een goede comeback van 14 punten door Alphen, wist de Enschedese defense de overwinning uit het vuur te slepen. 22-14 was de uiteindelijke score.

Genoeg om te verbeteren maar vol goede moed zien we uit naar onze volgende thuiswedstrijd. Komende zondag 19 maart 14:00 uur tegen de Utrecht Dominators, Wethouder Horstmansportpark 1 Enschede.

A hard fought victory

This Sunday, March 12th, saw the official kick-off of the 2017 season for the Enschede Broncos. The first game, against the Alphen Eagles was played at home. The Alphen Eagles, crowned as three time champions in the past 5 years, were relegated for this season due to a lack of players. A hard challenge for the Broncos!

The first half showed the Broncos were up for the task. After a pass from QB Tom Wolterink to Wilbert Poppink and 2 great runs by RB Hensley Sanchez, the Broncos were up 22-0 at halftime. So far so good, dominance was established. After halftime the Eagles tried to rally, they made some changes in their team and it looked like they were going to be successful. Offensively the Broncos were being stopped, and the Bronco defence had a lot of problems trying to stop the Eagles offence. Even though they managed to score 14 points, eventually the defence held out to give the Broncos their first W of the season, 22-14 the final score.

There are some point to improve on, but all in all a great outing for the Broncos. Next Sunday, March 19th, Broncos play at home again against the Utrecht Dominators, trying to go 2-0 for the season! Kick-off is at 14:00, Wethouder Horstmanpark 1, Enschede!
