Hilversum Hurricanes @ Gladiators

Last Sunday it was time for the second game of the season for the combiteam Gladiators. This time a 9v9 game against the Hilversum Hurricanes on the new home base of the Nijmegen Pirates.

4 of our players played for the Hurricanes so the game could happen.

Broncos Roster:

Defense: Nikita, Doruk, Coen, Twan

Offense: Camilio, Stefan, Tim, Luca

After adapting a new playbook, Tim kicked of the game. The defense under command of Tim Helleman from Alphen Eagles got a quick 3 and out and it was time for rookie QB Remco from Alphen to lead the Gladiators. This however led to a punt from Tim on fourth down. Neither team was able to put any points on the board yet.

A forced fumble on the second drive of the Hurricanes gave the Gladiators an excellent field position on the opposition 30 yard line. A run play from Tim Mulder was brought back with a flag on the play. The offense weren’t able to penetrate the endzone. On defense, Tim Helleman ripped the ball out of the hands of a Hilversum wide receiver, giving the offense another chance.

However, a fumble by our QB lead to another chance for Hilversum to put some points on the board, which they did. A pass to the right side gave the Hurricanes 6 points, followed by the ‘brotherly shove’ on the 2-point conversion.

The Gladiators gave up another touchdown, not much later. A deep ball to the right side and another 6 points on the board. Not much later guest player Sjoerd capitalized on the a safety mistake. Halftime: 00-20.

In the second halve, Tim Helleman took over at QB. With two touchdown passes to Remco and Tim the Gladiators came back into the game. Even though the defense got their act together, the final score was 12 to 36 for the Hilversum Hurricanes.
