In alle vroegte stapten de Broncos 5 april, op eerste paasdag, in de bus om naar Spijkenisse te vertrekken. Daar zou om 14:00 de kick-off zijn tussen de Spijkenisse Scouts en de Enschede Broncos. De Scouts hadden zich een geduchte tegenstander getoond door alle voorgaande wedstrijden te winnen, waar de Broncos nog maar een win achter hun naam wisten te noteren.

Het zou een ware titanenstrijd blijken waar er in het eerste kwart geen punten genoteerd werd op het scorebord, vroeg in het tweede kwart kwamen de Broncos echter in de buurt van de endzone. Na drie pogingen lukte het niet om een nieuwe first down te halen, maar zagen de Broncos wel hun kans om de eerste punten op het bord te krijgen, het zou een fieldgoal moeten worden. Met 25 yards te gaan gingen de Broncos klaar staan voor de fieldgoal: de snap was goed; de bal werd goed geplaatst; er werd getrapt; en door de palen! Helaas, de scheidsrechters constateerden een false start door de offense. Een nieuwe kans, 5 yards verder: ook dit keer wordt de bal mooi tussen de palen door getrapt, een 35-yard fieldgoal door Sebastian Salomon. Score 0-3

De Scouts zagen in dat de Broncos verre van een makkelijke tegenstander was en zetten een tandje bij. Een lange run van de Running Back van de Scouts zorgde er voor dat ze in de Broncos’ Redzone terecht kwamen, het zou spannend worden. De defense wisten de Scouts voor 4 tries af te weren en veroverden de bal terug, op de Broncos 3 yard lijn. Offense kwam het veld op, maar wisten helaas de ijzersterke Scouts defense niet te penetreren. Nu hadden de Scouts weer de bal en met nog 5 yards te gaan voor de Scouts wisten de Broncos niet nog een keer te stunten, de Scouts scoorden met een sterke run van Ronny Barbosa. De PAT wisten de Broncos te stoppen. Score 6-3

Halftime

Zowel de Broncos offense als defense kwamen sterk uit halftime en wisten snel yards te pakken. Met een geniale catch van Receiver Daan Berntsen wisten de Broncos snel in het derde kwart in de Scouts Red Zone te komen. Daar liet onze grote O-Line zien dat het ook een aardig potje bal kon spelen en blokten ruim baan voor een QB sneak. TD door Tom Wolterink. Helaas geen PAT voor de Broncos. Score 6-9

Waar de Broncos defense zorgde voor snelle conversions, zorgde de Broncos offense voor snelle yards met de passing game. Al snel wisten de Broncos de redzone van de Scouts te bereiken. Dit keer zou de Running game de dienst uit maken in de redzone. Marco Beilmann rende de bal de endzone in voor de tweede Broncos TD. Ook de PAT vloog dit keer door de palen. Score 6-16

Met 10 punten achterstand zagen de Scouts in het vierde kwart reden om de lucht weer eens op te zoeken met de bal. Waar dit eerder niet lukte zagen de Scouts dit keer de bal vliegen met gematigd succes. Een uitschieter daarvan was een lange pass op Zarrel Rudolfina, deze wist bijna de endzone te bereiken. Een QB sneak van Rody Vink wisten de Scouts de endzone te bereiken. De 2-pointconversion, een pass, werd geblokt door Elvis Morris. Score 12-16

5 min 17 op de klok aldus de scheidsrechters, de Broncos moesten en zouden winnen. Een grote kans dat de Scouts voor een onside kick zouden gaan, vandaar dat er van te voren besproken werd dat als de bal kwam, hij gedowned moest worden, iedereen was akkoord. Bijna iedereen. Rùgene Poppen dacht er het zijne van toen de bal op hem af kwam. Hij sloeg de bal de lucht in en ving hem, de Broncos hadden de bal veilig, Rùgene verraste echter alles en iedereen toen hij besloot om met de bal te gaan rennen in plaats van hem te downen. BEASTMODE ACTIVATED. Hij schoot door 5 Scouts heen en liet iedereen zien waar de bal thuishoorde: in de Scouts’ endzone. Ook de PAT werd dit keer weer benut. Score 12-23

De laatste minuten werden uitgespeeld waarin de bal veelvuldig van eigenaar veranderde. Beide defenses bleken te sterk om nog iets aan de score te veranderen. Eindstand 12-23

Broncos win!

By the crack of dawn, Eastern Sunday, the Broncos got on the bus to leave for Spijkenisse. There the Broncos would have their kick-off against the Spijkenisse Scouts at 2PM. The Scouts had shown that they would be worthy opponents by winning every single game this season, whereas the Broncos had only gotten one win.

The game was going to be a true clash of the titans where noone was able to make a score in the first quarter. Early second quarter the Broncos came near the Scouts’ endzone. Unfortunatly the first three tries got shut down, but at the 25-yard line the Broncos saw an opportunity to go for the fieldgoal. A good snap; good placement; a kick; straight through the goalpost. Alas, the officials had seen a false start by the offense. A new chance, this time only 5 yards more, another good kick by Sebastian Salomon. 35-yard fieldgoal. Score 0-3

The Scouts noticed that the Broncos were going to be a far from easy opponent and stepped up their game. A long run from the Scouts’ Running Back drove the ball into the Broncos’ redzone, this was going to be close. The Broncos managed to shut down their offense and after 4 tries got possession of the ball. At the Broncos 3-yard line the Scouts’ defense proved too tough, they got back the ball. The Broncos D didn’t manage to pull off another stunt and with a strong run from Ronny Barbosa the Scouts scored a TD, the PAT got stopped by the Broncos. Score 6-3

Halftime

Both Broncos’ offense and defense came back strong after halftime and managed to get some quick yardage. A catch with a stroke of genius by Reciever Daan Berntsen got the Broncos to the Scouts edzone early in the third quarter. Our big O-Line showed they could play a good game of ball and cleared the road for a QB sneak. Touchdown by Tom Wolterink. Unfortunately no PAT for the Broncos. Score 6-9

Where the Broncos defense got quick conversions, the Broncos offense got quick yards with their passing game. Soon the Broncos managed to get into the Scouts redzone again. This time the Running game would call the shots. Marco Beilmann ran the ball into the endzone for the Broncos’ second touchdown. The PAT also flew through the goalpost. Score 6-16

With the Broncos taking a 10 point lead the Scouts saw reason to try the air again with the ball. Whereas the passing game got shut down earlier, the Scouts saw the ball fly with moderate success in the fourth quarter. A spike of that was a long pass on Zarrel Rudolfine, who almost got the bal towards the endzone. A QB sneak by Rody Vink was enough for the Scouts to reach the Broncos’ endzone. The 2-point conversion, a pass, was cut short by Elvis Morris. Score 12-16

5 minutes 17 on the clock, according to the officials, the Broncos had to win this game! There was a big chance the Scouts would go for an onside kick, therefor the Broncos discussed that if the ball came, it had to be downed quickly, everyone agreed. Almost everyone. Rùgene Poppen had something different in his mind. When he saw the ball flying towards him he batted it up and caught it. The Broncos secured the ball, Rùgene, however, surprised everyone on and off the field by running the ball instead of downing it. BEASTMODE ACTIVATED. He rushed past 5 Scouts and showed everyone where that ball was supposed to be: in the Scouts’ endzone. The PAT was kicked good again. Score 12-23

The last minutes were played wherein the ball changed of possession a lot. Both defenses showed they were too strong for anything to be changed to the score. Final Score 12-23
